Since arriving in Hawaii last week, she has been spending time in the arms of her boyfriend Austin Butler.

But Vanessa Hudgens managed to pry herself away from her new beau to promote her new film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island over the weekend.

The 23-year-old slipped into a long white halterneck maxi dress with embroidered detail for a series of stunning photographs.


Of course the shoot had a distinct Hawaiian feel, with the movie filmed and based on the stunning island.

With barely any make-up on her flawless complexion, Vanessa is glowing in the snaps and wears her brunette locks out in a natural wave.

Staying with the tropical theme she accessorises with some coral stone earrings and a tropical purple orchid tucked behind her ear.

Perching on some trees in an idyllic setting close to the beach, she is the epitome of a beautiful island girl.

Vanessa is currently on the promotional trail for her action-adventure film, which is due to hit theatres in the US on Friday, February 10.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island centres around a woman named Kailani (played by Hudgens) and her boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.

It co-stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson who was brought in to replace Brendan Fraser, who starred in the last installment titled Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Taking a short break from promoting the film last week, Vanessa and boyfriend Butler haven't been able to keep their hands off each other as they frolicked in beautiful Maui.

Over the weekend the couple put on yet another public display of affection in the waters of the island.

With her bikini body on display in a tiny black patterned two piece, Vanessa was seen leaning in to hug and kiss her shirtless beau on Saturday evening.

The two tanned actors splashed around the water and watched the sun set after going kayaking together.

Vanessa and fellow Disney actor Austin, 20, who have been dating since last September, are clearly very much in the honeymoon period of their relationship.

It was the third straight day the love birds had frolicked in the surf and shared a steamy kiss in public.

But despite the fact that Vanessa is now clearly dating Austin, she was still quizzed by an Australian interviewer last week about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Josh Hutcherson while promoting Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in Sydney.

A host asked: 'So how long have you been going on?', there was an awkward silence between the pair until Hutcherson, 19, said: 'We're not, we were at one point, but she broke my heart.'

But the pair couldn't contain their passion as they checked into their flight, and shared a sweet and tender kiss.


The couple, who were first linked in September, had enjoyed a romantic lunch and stroll in the city's Burbank area, earlier in the day.

And she may be the bigger star of the twosome, but Hudgens gazed at Butler as if he was a demigod.

The High School Musical actress and her new beau stepped out for a spot of lunch, barely looking at the sidewalk to check where she was walking.

Since bidding farewell to Zac Efron last December, the star found herself a new specimen, with the pair becoming an item in September.

Butler opted for an all-black ensemble, hiding his blonde locks beneath a beanie and finishing off the look with a leather jacket and jeans.

As she posted a picture of the line-up online - which includes impressive headliners Foo Fighter, No Doubt and Radiohead - she wrote: 'Omg. Omg. Omg. I could die. But I can’t cause I have to experience this years Coachella!!!!! It’s going to be EPIC!!!!! I can’t waittttttt.'

The pair have been dating since late summer and were first seen together at the 30th birthday party for her former co-star Ashley Tisdale's sister Jennifer.

Vanessa has revealed that she got injured while shooting her upcoming movie Journey 2: They Mysterious Island.

The starlet admitted that she was to blame for the incident and now has a scar to show for it.

'We were shooting a scene down on the beach and there are just lava rocks everywhere,' she explained to About.com.

The actress looked in fine form during her weekend excursion after piling on the pounds for another recent film role.

She put on weight to play character Agnes 'Apple' Bailey - a pregnant runaway in drama, Gimme Shelter.

Vanessa also chopped off her long brown tresses rather than wearing a wig and is now starting to grow her hair out.

The actress says she is happy to get away from her teen role and tackle grittier projects.

When speaking about her character in the film, Vanessa said: 'I'm so excited and proud of the work I've been doing and let me tell you, you all are going to be SHOCKED with how I look in this movie.

Deciding to have some fun with the paparazzi, Vanessa also turned her hand to photography, trying to snap the photographers with her own camera as she left the store.

Earlier in the week, Vanessa was seen out and about with long black hair, after apparently donning a wig or temporary hair extensions to get around her crop.

'There's nothing wrong with soccer moms, but I'm only 22! I miss my hair, believe me, I do, but there's nothing I can do about it.'

While cruising down La Cienega and Santa Monica, photographers caught the actress having a puff on a cigarette while in the passenger seat of a companion's car.

However, Vanessa was none too pleased at being caught having a cheeky puff and soon ditched the smoking evidence before jumping out of her car in a loose fitting see-through grey dress and knee-high boots.

It's not the first time Vanessa has seen her image tarnished.

'I get hot flashes! I can't breathe, and I get claustrophobic. It's a very odd business. I do it because I love acting, but I don't know if I'll ever get used to it.'
