Kerry Katona confesses: 'I was off my head for four years, if I'd stayed with Mark I would have been dead'

By Jody Thompson

Tears: Kerry Katona confessed that she almost died from the amount of drugs she was taking in her new documentary Coming Clean about her battle to get sober

Kerry Katona has confessed she could have been killed by drugs at the height of her addiction - and says leaving husband Mark Croft saved her life.

Talking in a documentary to be screened next week, she said: 'If I'd stayed with Mark I would have been dead.

'The next time you'd have seen me would have been at my funeral.'

In one of her most honest interviews ever, Kerry, 30, also admitted that she can't remember chunks of her four children's lives as she was so off her head.

She also says she only stayed with former cab driver Mark as she was terrified he would spill the beans about her colossal appetite for class As.

The former Atomic Kitten singer, who's recently gone from a size 14 to a tiny size eight after a health and fitness regime, said she even took MORE drugs in a bit to shock Mark into begging her to stop.

She said: 'I'd go OTT on the drugs, hope that he would go, "Kerry, stop, that's enough," but he didn't.'

Smiling now: But Kerry Katona, ween here at the May Fair Hotel on Friday, has confessed she was living in a drugs hell for four years while with ex husband Mark Croft

She continued: 'I needed someone to stop me and I was trying to push Mark to prove how much he loved me by saying, 'Look Kerry, you've got f****** kids out there. I knew that I was doing wrong.'

But the reality TV star reckoned that he needed to go to rehab too.

The People, which has seen a preview of the documentary, reports that she used to plead with him: 'I don't want this life no more, let's go to rehab together, let me take you to rehab.' But he refused.

She tearfully claimed that she doesn't believe Mark ever loved her, but it still took her months to leave him.

She said: 'I don't think Mark ever did want me.'

Looking to the future: Kerry has got her life and career back on track since quitting Mark and cocaine

However, she says she stuck with him for the sake of her children, Molly, nine, Lilly-Sue, seven, Heidi, three, and Max, two.

But she admitted that she was so out of it on drugs, that she missed a large amount of them growing up.

She said: 'I feel so ashamed and embarrassed because I've lost four years with the kids, spending time with them.

'I wish I could've done something about it sooner, but when you're in love and you want that family unit, it's just really hard.'

Kerry eventually plucked up the courage to get clean and leave Mark in February this year.

However, by that time, she had already been declared bankrupt.

Kerry blames losing her millions on being so drugged up on prescription drugs for her bi-polar disorder, that she had no idea what was going on with her finances.

She claims she still doesn't know what happened to the money.
However, with help from manager Claire Powell, she's got her life and career back on track and will star in Dancing On Ice in the new year.

Kerry Katona Coming Clean is on ITV2 next Sunday. Her DVD Kerry Katona: Real Fitness meanwhile hits the shops at the end of December.
